Across The Pond To Kuerner's Hill
Just up and over this hill was the childhood home of Andrew Wyeth. The story goes that as a young boy he could wander off as he pleased but was not allowed to cross the road. That still left an enormous area where he was allowed to adventure. He befriended everyone on that side of Ring road which included many of the subjects of his paintings. Those relationships as friend, model and painter continued throughout their lives. I think I heard that when he was about 12 he dared to cross Ring road to meet Mr. Kuerner senior. He is the Father of the "Mr. Kuerner" I have painted many times, shown in this section. He did many drawings and paintings here starting very very young and continued to paint the farm and the Kuerners for the rest of his life. The most important picture book I have ever owned was Wyeth At Kuerners. I can easily say that it changed my life in an instant.— Eddie Flotte
