Wake Up and Smell the Cocoa
This is a painting done from memory of our Grandparents kitchen in Center Square Pa. It includes all of the key elements i could remember including cocoa on the burner and cereal boxes on the stove shelf. I began to imagine this painting after hearing of a possible group show about Kitchens to be held at The Hui on Maui.. I had it half finished when I realized the Hui wanted art made of broken plates and spoon. or painted with food. ...that sort of thing. So it never made the exhibit which turned out fun and interesting. The painting turns out to be one of my all time favorite because it really captures the spirit of my grandparents, their home, and our memories there. I did lots of sketches and built a 3d cardboard version to help me with perspective... also many of the elements, such as the linoleum and stove, can be found on line. That helped a lot with critical details I wasn't completely sure of.
